Marcus is a Strategic Futurist and one of Australasia's top Value Systems specialists, assisting clients with advanced strategic thinking and innovation processes. In the past few years he's spoken at the UNESCO 'Committing Universities to Sustainability' conference in Austria, 'World Futures Conference' in Vancouver and 'World Water Week' in Stockholm along with many others around Australia, always with an eye on emerging issues and options for responses.
Marcus was co-presenter on the National Geographic Channel's TV series 'Future Matters', author of 'The Money Tree and How to Grow One - Creating Success in Your Business' and has just finished 'Getting Your Future Right' due for publication in Febr 2012. He is currently finishing 'Killing Trends: the Graceful Art of Innovation' and also 'Recession Proof Marketing' (co authored with Tod O'Reilly) both due for release in 2012; he is the founder of the Australian Strategic Planning Institute was an advisory board member of the Australian Bill of Rights Initiative and is part of the Lifeboat Foundation's Futures advisory Board. He has recently joined the Board of the Association of Professional Futurists. Marcus has been published in a number of Journals around the world, is often interviewed for articles in newspapers and magazines and is a regular contributor to Australasia's leading innovation magazine 'Fast Thinking’

Potentially the biggest area of untapped competitive advantage (and arguably one of the biggest areas where costs could be reduced) is within supply chains. Most approaches to Supply Chain Management are linear and isolated with one player trying to squeeze the other with no regard to the overall effect of the full supply chain. It's a short-sighted and destructive approach particularly common in some areas of business. This article appeared in Fast Thinking Magazine and I thank Frank Green at the Department of Employment, Economic Development and Innovation in Queensland for prompting me to post it.

There's a shift underway in the mining industry that will likely catch Australian airlines out if they aren't paying attention - the shift toward 'remote' mining. Remote mining is being pushed by the automation ability across all aspects of current mining technology, which at the basic level, means that fewer humans are needed on site in mines. And that suggests a major challenge for airline companies of all sizes, who've come to rely on the FIFO (fly in and fly out) model of human capability delivery to mines across Australia. The technology advancements are across almost all aspects of mining operations with perhaps just one area (maintenance) still likely to need onsite human capabilities.
