Blackwood 8 fundraiser assists the Ludwig Institute for Cancer research

Tuesday 4 November 2008

The second annual fund raiser was held in late October and attended by almost 300 people. Marcus Barber offers a brief update:

The Blackwood 8 commitee put together a great fund raiser on behalf of the Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research in Melbourne.  With a delightful crowd warm up by Greg Champion of the 'Coodabeen Champions', sponsorship from the local Bendigo Bank and Mazda dealer (among others) it was a great event.

Professor Jonathon Cebon spoke to the 300 or so people and explained to them how money from last year's event was used to help purchase a very innovative piece of equipment that is looking at the link between cancer and the way an unexpectedly high auto immune response might lead to a cure of certain cancers. One of the key messages from the evening was that every contribution helps cancer researchers take one small step to seeking out the cure for a wider array of cancers and it was a great priviledge to be part of the day.

It looks like this year's event (held at the Heritage Golf Club at Chirnside Park) that was preceded by a round of Gold on the magnificent Henly course for those with the time and inclination, has raised almost $50,000.  It was a great night and well done to all those involved

Financial Crisis 101 - a smart diagram that explains (mostly) it all
Friday 21 November 2008
The link below will take you to a great little diagram that explains the unfolding of the Financial Crisis as most people know of it. As Marcus Barber explains, it doesn't delve too deep into the structural design of the financial system, or start at the 'true beginning' of the problem and it does explain in a very easy to follow way, how certain events occurred and what the results of those events were.
