The Increased Reach of Private Equity

Friday 25 August 2017

Was lucky enough to have joined some invitees at Grant Thornton's Private Equity conference. Three well run days with good speakers looking at aspects of potential for engagement in specific companies and areas (themes). As investment vehicles in various Industry sectors, PE is a clear Futures Focused area of endeavour.

And like many sectors, requires an understanding of emerging risks, environmental scanning and asking plenty of 'What Ifs?' Perhaps less known to those outside the sector (me being one of them), is the extent of relationship management that is needed. There's no doubt that, even with a passion for numbers and data, the sector are first and foremost 'People' people. Plenty of interesting side conversations too, on subjects such as future of ageing, HealthCare, Private Education and even Liveable wages.

I had a chance to take the group through some of the basic Futures Tool kit elements and help them consider the idea of confirmation bias - wherein the noise of today blocks us from seeing the future emerging.

As the saying goes - 'watch this space'

Using Foresight Thinking to Enhance the Productivity of Nations
Friday 9 March 2018
As Nations look to develop their understanding of Productivity and more effective planning, National Productivity Councils are often the first point of call for Governments looking for ideas. The Asia Productivity Organisation has been running since 1961 helping its member countries develop more effective approaches. I've just spent a week in Tokyo helping a group of them think about the future
