Profiting from Sustainability & Climate Change
Sunday 11 December 2016
In Ft. Lauderdale USA I recently attending a delightful provocatively named 'Companies Versus Climate Change' conference. And the message is clear - companies, BIG well known companies are tackling the issues of climate change, sustainability and their carbon footprints and both making and saving VAST sums of dollars. The simple take away message from the presentations over the three days could not have been more explicit - tackling climate change pays off big time!
I'll be putting together a summary of each of the three days and posting it up in full here a little later. In the meantime, please know that there are companies out there doing some brilliant work. And for me there was not one sign of #Greenwashing. A couple of the companies were very upfront with showing they had a long way to go. Most indicated that they had not finished their journey and saw significant upside. So who were some of those who presented? Bacardi; Alaska Air; United Airlines; Ingersoll Rand; Ernst & Young. Big firms; big carbon footprints all showed how YOUR company could also benefit from getting serious.
It's clear that political ability to tackle this issue is no longer available in many parts of the world. Too many seemingly 'smart' people have rolled over. Thankfully Companies are not standing back with their donations hand held out. They're busy doing what is needed DESPITE the paucity of action at many levels of Government around the world.
If you're interested in having a look at the kind of actions - have a look at the solveclimatechange.com website or search twitter for the #CVCC16 marker. It's a rich vein of insights

Like lab grown meats, Vertical Farming is going to be part of the future of food. For now it might be best to compare them to small scale battery storage on the electrical grid that can help balance out spikes of demand in the system and provide an output directly where needed.
